About Oban

Oban is one of the west coast's most popular towns, and it's easy to see why. Known as the gateway to the isles, the town is the main ferry hub for the Inner Hebrides with regular sailings to Mull, Coll, Colonsay, and beyond.

As a working fishing port, Oban is also one of the best places in Scotland to eat fresh seafood. The catch comes straight off the boats, so whether you're after fish and chips on the pier or a sit-down seafood restaurant, you're getting it as fresh as it comes.

How to get here

Train

Oban railway station is only a 4 minute walk away. Direct trains run from Glasgow Queen Street (around 3 hours). From Edinburgh, change at Glasgow.

Ferry

If arriving from the islands (Mull, Tiree, Coll, Lismore, etc.), the Oban ferry terminal is just a short 5 minute walk from the apartment.

Plane

The easiest options are via Glasgow Airport (GLA) or Edinburgh Airport (EDI), then continue by Ember bus or train. Inverness Airport (INV) is also possible with an Ember bus connection via Fort William but has fewer flights.

Car

Parking is available just a 7 minute walk from the flat at the Lochavulin road car park near Tesco. It's free for the first 2 hours, then £1 per hour after that. You only need to pay between 9AM and 6PM (parking is free outside these hours). You can't book in advance but you shouldn't need to.

You can also park directly outside the flat but there is a max stay of 2 hours - still useful for unpacking your stuff!

Bus

Scottish Citylink coaches stop in Oban town centre (very close to Argyll Square). Regular services from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Ember also runs comfortable, zero-emission electric buses with direct services to Oban:

From Glasgow: Best Option. Direct service stopping at Glasgow Airport, Dumbarton, Tarbet (Loch Lomond), and Tyndrum. Journey time ≈ 2 hours 45 minutes.

From Edinburgh: Not direct, go via Glasgow.

From Inverness: Via Fort William and Fort Augustus. Multiple daily services (some extend all the way). Journey time ≈ 3.5 hours.

Ember buses arrive at Oban Bus Station, which is only a 5 minute walk to Argyll Square. Book tickets and check live times on the Ember website: www.ember.to or use their app for real-time tracking.
